| | Hotels you can now book with points | | by Tanner Saunders, Senior hotels reporter |
| | As TPG's resident hotel expert, I've been eyeing a trend that's looking good for us points and miles people (The Points People, if you will). The major hotel companies with loyalty programs keep launching new "collection" brands that allow independent hotels to join a massive loyalty program without having to lose their unique identity or conform to strict brand standards.
So what does that mean? It means that soon you'll likely start seeing boutiquelike hotels all over the world become bookable with points.
This is akin to other recent partnerships we've seen that made everything from independent luxury hotels to glamping resorts more points-friendly: - The Villa La Madonna, a Small Luxury Hotels of the World property in Piedmont, Italy, is bookable from $511 or 85,000 Hilton Honors points per night.
- Under Canvas Zion, a Mr & Mrs Smith property near Zion National Park, is bookable from $362 or 28,250 World of Hyatt points per night.
There are already a few major collection brands out there, like Hilton's Curio Collection and Marriott's Autograph Collection. But this year, and really in the last few months, IHG, Marriott, Hilton and Hyatt have all announced new collections, meaning no matter what loyalty hat you wear, you'll likely be able to take advantage of these new brands and the independent hotels that join them. Of course, having a lot of exciting new hotels is great news for me, too. I have the difficult job of going out to review them to help my Points People decide where to go next.
