| | The "secret" to getting a great deal these days is to stack a couple of good deals together.
Think: Stretching your points with a card transfer bonus, combined with leveraging an airline redemption sweet spot. Or timing a purchase with a big shopping portal bonus and claiming a retailer credit on the card you pay with (letting you earn extra rewards while also getting money back on that purchase).
In light of this, when the Chase Sapphire Reserve®'s new perks and benefits were announced in June, there was a set of related benefits I couldn't wait to see if I could stack together once all the perks went live for existing cardholders, which just happened in late October.
Specifically, I wanted to see if I could use the twice-yearly credit of up to $250 for The Edit collection, Chase's curated collection of luxury hotels and resorts, and pay the difference for the stay using the awesome Chase Points Boost feature, which gives you up to 2 cents per point in value at a variety of hotels when booking through Chase Travel℠.
Hotels in The Edit collection can start around $250-$300 per night, and the credit kicks in on stays of two nights or more. So shaving $250 off the top and then paying the rest with points at 2 cents each — plus getting all of The Edit perks, such as free full breakfast, a $100 property credit and more — could be a really sweet deal, if it worked.
For example, if a two-night stay at the Bellagio in Las Vegas (which is in The Edit) costs $300 per night ($600 total) and you used the $250 credit, then you'd be left owing just 17,500 Chase points using Points Boost, plus you'd get any perks mentioned above that are available.
That would be pretty great.
Long story short: The test worked! I was able to use that $250 credit and cover the difference with my Chase points at the boosted value of 2 cents apiece for a stay I wanted at a JW Marriott resort.
