W makes a splash in Punta Cana by Tanner Saunders, Senior hotels reporter As TPG's senior hotel reporter, I've had the chance to spend a lot (and I mean a lot) of time at all-inclusive resorts over my four-year tenure here. But when Marriott announced the first-ever W-branded all-inclusive resort a few years back, I figured it would go one of two ways: Marriott would slap on some logos and it would be the same old same old — or it would be a game changer. After finally getting the chance to visit the adults-only property, I can firmly say it's one of my favorite all-inclusive resorts I've visited. You'll have to read my full review to get all the specifics, but I can tell you these three highlights: I ate an experiential meal I'd expect from a chic restaurant in Brooklyn rather than an all-inclusive resort. It was hard to drag myself away from the resort's ocean-facing infinity pool. The living architecture (think: lush greenery incorporated into every aspect of the property) had me planning my return long before I even left. I've said it before and I'll say it again: I think we're entering the golden age of all-inclusive resorts. And if you're an all-inclusive naysayer, just think about how much fun you could have when you're not worried about how much your spicy margs cost.
