| | As we head toward the end of 2025, it's worth a quick audit of your airline status progress before the clock resets. A little bit of planning and effort now could save you a scramble (or an unnecessary mileage run).
Here's what you should check right now: - Audit your gap: Log in to your account and note exactly what you still need to reach your elite status goals so there are no surprises when your status year ends.
- Consider a last‑minute "mileage run": If you're close to your status goals but might just fall short, look for cheap nonstop, same‑day turns that will get you to your goal. Just make sure they'll qualify. (Some basic economy flights might not, but some programs do now count mileage redemptions toward elite status).
- Check for promos: Airlines often float limited‑time boosts, waivers, or status-buying or -extending offers which could be worth a look before you spend any more money to reach status.
- Don't be afraid to declare yourself a free agent: If you only fly a few times a year on the cheapest fares, status perks like space-available upgrades, checked bags and fee waivers may be scarce. Shopping around for the best fares, even if it’s not with your preferred airline, could be a smarter option next year.
