| My tried-and-true travel card | by Tarah Chieffi, Senior Writer | | | The Capital One Venture X Rewards Credit Card wasn't my first premium travel card, but it may be my last.
In the world of premium cards, where annual fees now climb to nearly $800, the Venture X’s very reasonable $395 annual fee is a breath of fresh air. Especially when you consider the card's best perks:
Valuable welcome offer: New cardholders can earn 75,000 bonus miles after spending $4,000 on purchases in the first three months after opening an account. According to TPG's July 2025 valuations, that bonus alone is worth $1,387.50.
$300 annual travel credit and anniversary miles bonus: When you combine the $300 annual credit toward hotel or flight bookings made through Capital One Travel with the 10,000 bonus miles you earn on each account anniversary (worth at least 1 cent apiece, and possibly much more through transfer partners), you more than offset the Venture X card's annual fee.
High earning rate on travel purchases: I earn 10 miles per dollar spent on hotels and rental cars and 5 miles per dollar spent on flights and vacation rentals booked through Capital One Travel.
Airport lounge access: The Venture X comes with complimentary access to Capital One Lounges and Priority Pass lounges (after enrollment). Even after a recent change to the lounge access policy for authorized users and guests, this is still a generous benefit compared to other premium cards.
There's no denying the premium card space is getting more competitive, but it's easy to see why the Venture X remains my top choice. Here are some resources that can help you decide if it'll be your new favorite, too: | | Posts in this newsletter contains references to products from one or more of our advertisers.
